Joy

Joy is defined in the dictionary to be, "a feeling of great pleasure and joy". But how can such a diverse and immense emotion be explained in so few, simple words? The answer is, it can't.

Joy to me is taking a bare-footed stroll across a quiet beach on a sunny day. Or a dog taking interest in me at the park. But to someone else, it might be curling up with a favourite book in a fairy-lit room. Or the feeling of empowerment as the credits roll signalling the end of an uplifting film. Or their favourite song unexpectedly blasting through the radio, submerging the room in melody.

There are more than 7 billion people in this world. And no two are the same. We all have different interests, different feelings, different lives and so no one is going to feel joy at the same things. In this sense it is not the causes of joy that unite us, it is the feeling itself.

That's the beautiful thing about joy. It has the power to bring together entire communities of people from different backgrounds, with different stories and beliefs. It has the power to change a person's day, month or even life. It's the world's most precious treasure and as a result it's often hard to find.

So, we sometimes lose the feeling in our whirlwind lives and struggle to find it in the jumble of our days. We forget what creates joy for us or just don't have time to search for it. That's what this blog is for. Finding Joy aims to help people to rediscover joy and what creates it for them with short stories that you can easily implement into your day, because joy is out there and you deserve to find it.
